Pay respects to the men who have died protecting our great United States at the Hidalgo County Veterans War Memorial. The memorial honors those killed in action during World War I, World War II, the Korean War, and Vietnam. You'll find the memorial in front of the Hidalgo County Courthouse.
Visit the Los Ebanos Ferry and take a ride on a true Texas relic. The ferry is the last hand-operated cable ferry on the Rio Grande River. This little piece of Lone Star State history got it's name from the plant it is anchored by, the Texas Ebony. Don't bother going on a rainy day, the ferry doesn't run when the weather is bad.
If you're a fan of the genre, you'll want to take a look at the Tejano Walk of Fame. Honorees include Freddy Fender, Selena Quintanilla, Narciso Martinez, and Edinburg native, Jose Roberto Pulido, who's statue stands as the walkway's centerpiece. The Walk of Fame is one of the first installments of the city's planned public art projects.
